Regenica® was developed by Dr. Gail Naughton, one of the original developers of TNS® — an early growth factor technology. As she continued and advanced her research, she was struck by the fact that an unborn child could have surgery, yet have no scars at birth. She studied what was unique about the prenatal environment and found a way to mimic it, so that she could produce the same type of multipotent growth factors that are associated with scarless healing. This led to her development of MRCx™, the latest breakthrough in growth factor skin care.
Dr. Gail Naughton, Ph.D., is a leading regenerative scientist and researcher who has held numerous academic and Board appointments. As the founder of Advanced Tissue Sciences, she helped develop and pioneer the use of collagen as a tissue alternative. It was there that Dr. Naughton and her teammates recognized that the nutrients used in the conditioning process to make collagen might also be used in skin care. In the 1990s, this discovery gave rise to Nouricel MD™, which later became known as Tissue Nutrient Solution (TNS®). Dr. Naughton continued her research in regenerative science, particularly in embryonic scarless wound healing. Her research led to the development of MRCx™ next generation growth factor technology, the latest breakthrough in growth factor skin care.

MRCx™ is next generation growth factor technology made by a proprietary, patented process. It is a blend of physiologically balanced growth factors that are naturally secreted by human fibroblasts. These fibroblasts have been cultured and nourished to enable them to revert back to an embryonic-like state and exhibit stem cell properties. The result is younger, fresher growth factors.
The MRCx™ patented process begins by harvesting human fibroblasts from a neonatal cell bank and culturing them in pure, bovine-free media. The cells are then anchored to all-natural dextran microbeads and suspended in a culture chamber while the oxygen tension is lowered from atmospheric levels of 21% down to less than 5%. During the conditioning process, the beads are gently and constantly stirred to allow unrestricted movement. The combination of gentle suspension and low oxygen levels mimics an embryonic environment. This allows the cells to revert back to an embryonic-like stage and exhibit stem cell properties. They release multipotent growth factors which are then collected to make MRCx™.

The MRCx™ in Regenica® has been tested for over 100 growth factors and proteins. The exact mix of growth factors is proprietary, but the clinical results speak for themselves.
Growth factors are large molecules, but they can penetrate the stratum corneum of the epidermis through follicles where the skin is thinner, through pores, and directly through the intra-follicular epidermis. As signaling proteins, they may trigger an underlying cascade in addition to having an effect through direct penetration.

Four clinical studies have been conducted on Regenica®. Two of the trials studied the effects of Regenica® after a laser treatment and were published in peer-reviewed journals. They found that Regenica® enhanced healing after a laser procedure. Two anti-aging studies showed that using Regenica® resulted in smoother skin texture and tone as well as a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. In addition, a consumer preference survey demonstrated that consumers preferred the effects and aesthetics of Regenica® over TNS® Essential Serum.
Two trials were published evaluating the effects of MRCx™ in the post-laser setting.The first proof of concept study was a double-blind, full-face comparison of Regenica® vs. placebo in which all subjects were allowed to use petrolatum as needed. There was a statistically significant reduction in the need for petrolatum use in the Regenica® group and a trend towards reduced erythema by day 3 post laser. The second study was a double-blind, split-face design comparing MRCx™ vs. control. There were statistically significant reductions in transepidermal water loss (TEWL) in the Regenica® group by day 3 and visible improvements in edema and erythema in the treated subjects.
Two (unpublished) anti-aging studies were conducted. The first study was a single-blind study evaluating 14 subjects who used Regenica® Renew SPF 15 (formerly Day Repair SPF 15) and Replenishing Crème (formerly Overnight Repair). 90% saw a reduction in pore size, 82% noted improved skin texture, and 64% noted more radiant skin. A second single-blind study evaluated 18 subjects who used Regenica® Renew SPF 15 (formerly Day Repair) and Replenishing Crème (formerly Overnight Repair). The investigator noted statistically significant improvements in the appearance of skin tone, texture, wrinkles, radiance, translucency, and blotchiness. 100% of subjects were satisfied and would recommend Regenica® to a friend.
We put Regenica® to the Growth Factor Challenge. In a blind, split-face survey, consumers compared Regenica® (Replenishing Crème) to TNS® Essential Serum. Over 2/3rds of users preferred Regenica® overall and ~80% preferred the smell of Regenica® to TNS®. Over 60% felt that Regenica® left their skin feeling moisturized and improved their skin texture.
Clinical studies showed that no treatment-related adverse events (e.g. irritant or allergic dermatitis) were reported. As with any skin care product, some patients may experience irritation, redness, and sensitivity.
Immediately after use, patients may see significant improvement in skin hydration. In clinical studies, subjects using Regenica® Renew SPF 15 and Replenishing Crème saw significant results in as little as two weeks. Subjects using Rejuvenation Complex had improved healing in as little as three to five days. The best results are seen with continued use.
Skin cells are constantly proliferating, differentiating, and exfoliating. Maintaining this activity, and upregulating and downregulating activities in response to stressors, is intricately managed in part by growth factors. At any one time, there may be hundreds of growth factors acting together to preserve the balance and ensure optimum skin health. Growth factors signal natural repair and renewal.
As we age, the accumulated damage of past environmental exposure and intrinsic reduction in collagen and elastin formation outpace the skin’s ability to effectively remodel. The equilibrium is tipped. Young basal cells proliferate at a slower rate, are less effective at differentiating, and are less effective at pushing up towards the epidermis. More mature superficial cells are less efficient at turning over and exfoliating. Dermal cells produce less collagen and elastin and what is formed may be laid down in an irregular, disorganized pattern changing the skin’s properties. The clinical results are dull, crepey, sagging skin, uneven texture and tone, and fine lines and wrinkles.
The majority of environmental damage is caused by UV rays, but pollution, smoke, and harsh weather can also contribute to skin aging. Shorter UVB rays are responsible for skin reddening and burning. They affect the most superficial layers of epidermis causing cells to thicken and darken. Longer UVA rays have a more direct effect on the deeper layers of the epidermis where melanocytes and more connective tissue reside. Exposure to both can cause direct DNA damage and the release of free radicals. The toxic effects lead to a breakdown of collagen and elastin and an irregular pattern of new collagen and elastin formation. And of course, DNA damage can lead to skin cancer.
